So I Changed My Nail Polish...

As you may know, I recently gave birth to an amazingly cute little baby boy.

The pregnancy, the labor, and the delivery made me feel like a woman warrior.  I helped create a freaking human being!  My body grew him, nourished him, protected him, and brought him into this world.  Mind blowing!  I felt so strong and empowered; I was fit, healthy, and ready to embark on my new adventures as a mother of two boys.

One of these adventures included my first trip to the grocery store with both of the Ortega fellas.  Let me back track, one of these first adventures was getting a newborn and a toddler fed, diaper changed,  appropriately dressed for the Winter cold, and safely buckled in their car seats.  The next adventure was getting said bundled babes out of the car, across the parking lot and hauled into the carriage.  What, no room for groceries?!  At least there’s a rack underneath the cart for the essentials.

Upon successfully squishing milk (three different kinds:  organic whole for K, lactose free for hubs, and fat free for me), fruit, and K’s snack of choice:  veggie sticks into the underbelly of our cart, I meandered past the make up aisle.

That’s when they caught my eye…bright nail polishes.  Now if you’re familiar with me, my choice of polish colors include pale pink, nude, and the occasional deep maroon.  That is, when my nails are long enough for the application due to chronic nail biting.  Though, I have been known to splurge on the beginning of Summer bright fuscia.  Therefore, the electric blue that I was drawn to is a little out of character.  However, that’s when I decided, out of character is my new character.

I can no longer settle for safe.  I can no longer assume I can control every little aspect of my day.  I need to become more flexible, adjustable, free spirited.  Hence, I enthusiastically purchased that bottle of blue polish.  Immediately after nap had begun, color was applied.

I was awestruck by how symbolic this experience was:  bold, blue, and bad a**.  My life as a momma of two boys.
